Phase 2 — build a mill only after barns are buying bagged hurd.

Peter Iovino’s letter is a bedding rule. It is not an order for hemp hurd.

The letter is at Saratoga Casino Hotel, the harness track. The 1,820 published stalls are New York Racing Association (NYRA) Saratoga Race Course, a separate thoroughbred facility. The rule shows a track already rejects sawdust. The 1,820 is the published count this site uses for barn-side math.

No stall purchase contracts exist today. Figures are estimates if a barn bought the bag.

Three prices, three jobs. Do not add them.

  • $16 / 30 lb ($0.533/lb) — Dakota multi-pallet bag. What a converted barn pays. Saratoga 1,820 = $293,536.
  • $0.60/lb — Dakota listed 1/4-inch cut. Plant cards also show a second price — the mill’s listed cut of hurd, sixty cents a pound. That is not the sixteen-dollar bag the barn pays. Do not add the two prices.
  • $176 / stall — 11 bags × $16. The hemp material line in the pine-versus-hemp table.

Two platforms are already running in South Dakota. Dakota Hemp, Wakonda, runs a Canadian Greenfield HempTrain at a proven 2,000 pounds of stalk an hour, nameplate 3,000. Complete Hemp Processing, Winfred, runs a Formation Ag FiberTrack 660 at about 1 ton an hour. Cleaned hurd from Dakota leaves at $0.60 a pound. Lexington is the first copy for either machine, because Keeneland, Red Mile, and Churchill sit on 4,800 planted hemp acres. This page does not pick the machine.

Option A, the HempTrain anchor, opens for about $5,192,000 to $6,692,000. That uses the $3,500,000 value CGT states for the train, plus $1,500,000 to $3,000,000 to put a building, power, yard, and racking around it, plus $192,000 so the mill can buy 60 days of stalk at $0.20 a pound. It does not include the $5 to $7 million territory license. Option B, the FiberTrack bedding-ready module list, is about $861,761 before the building and before working capital. Both figures are anchors or estimates. Neither is a signed Kentucky bid. Ask the maker you intend to buy from.

If that mill runs one shift, eight hours, 200 days, and 70 percent of the stalk comes out as hurd, it makes about 2,240,000 pounds of hurd. Sold at Dakota’s $0.60 price, that is $1,344,000 a year. That figure is hurd only. Bast, fines, and compost are extra, and operating cost is not subtracted. The stalls named at each pin below are the part of that year you can point at today. A single track does not fill this mill. The surrounding barns do.

Decortication means separating bast, the long outer fiber, from hurd, the woody core. Option A and Option B both do that. This page does not pick one.

How one of these mills actually opens

File the state processor license on a real address. In Kentucky that application is free online. Lease an industrial building. Option A wants 19 feet of clear height, 175 kVA, and under 2,200 square feet of machine floor. Option B’s core is about 10 by 10 feet and a configured line is about 5,000 square feet; its kVA is not published. Canadian Greenfield installs the HempTrain, commissions it, and trains the crew. Dakota’s train was assembled in five and a half days. Formation sells the FiberTrack as modules with a separate install and training line. Lease the building. A campus purchase comes after the first season of bales.
